2.bCity Administrator Update - Mayor Maddasion
Mayor Maddasion led a discussion on restarting the City Administrator recruitment process after the previous search concluded without selecting a candidate. Councilmembers generally supported reposting the position without a search firm, with consensus forming around extending the posting period to 45 days and refining the job description, particularly the distinction between required and preferred qualifications. Several Councilmembers emphasized the importance of clearly defining the role and incorporating input from department heads and staff before reposting.
The Council also discussed the possibility of appointing an interim City Administrator while the recruitment process continues. Director Lemke, Chief Gyrion, and IT Director Entwistle each indicated a willingness to serve and discussed the importance of maintaining continuity, communication, and effective coordination among departments. Councilmembers acknowledged the qualifications of multiple internal candidates and discussed the potential benefits and challenges of appointing an interim administrator who may also seek the permanent position.
Attorney O'Connell advised that any interim appointment would need to be placed on a future Council agenda for formal action. Mayor Maddasion concluded the discussion by stating that consideration of an interim City Administrator would be moved to the next meeting agenda.
Lee made a motion to move an appointment of an interim City Administrator to the next council agenda. Obren seconded the motion.
